Collector's Corner: Jumanji Game Piece Set
From the vinyl loving, movie-obsessed mind that brought you Film on Vinyl, comes Collector’s Corner. This column delves deeper into the world of movie-themed toys, posters, collectibles and other oddball memorabilia to feed your inner geek. Next up on the shelf: Chronicle Collectible’s Jumanji Pieces.
Toys. Who doesn’t love toys? I know I do, or I wouldn’t have my own column discussing and reviewing them. What I love most about collecting toys and collectibles is the opportunity to own a part of my favorite films. Sure, I know my Lego Millennium Falcon wasn’t actually flown by Han Solo, but it doesn’t make it any less awesome. Unfortunately, while a lot of movie franchises get the big toy treatment, others are left in the dark. Luckily, that’s where Chronicle Collectibles comes to the rescue
For those of you who don’t know, Chronicle Collectibles is a toy company on steroids. In all fairness, calling them a toy company is a disservice. These cinephiles have taken their passion for movies and have created some of the most breathtaking collectibles. What’s even more impressive is that even though they create collectibles for some of the biggest movie franchises, they also strive to shine a light on the lesser-known properties. Case in point is their Think Geek exclusive Jumanji game pieces.
I remember when Jumanji hit theaters in the mid-nineties. Every time those drums starting beating, my heart started to race. And while watching a boy get sucked into a board game was slightly terrifying, I still wanted my own version of the Jumanji game. Finally, I’m one step closer to my childhood dream.
Chronicle’s set includes all four game pieces: Ivory-Colored Rhino, Metallic Elephant, Obsidian-Colored Crocodile, and Jade-Colored Monkey. These fantastic recreations of the cursed game pieces are quite a bit larger than the screen versions – standing at almost 4” tall – but that just means more to love. Each piece has been meticulously recreated from extensive screen caps from the film by sculpting and re-sculpting until each piece was perfect. A lot of love, blood, and sweat went into these pieces. Hopefully, more love than blood or sweat.
These pieces are the perfect addition to anyone’s collection and the best way to spice up those Instagram shelfies. Follow the link here to make your way over the Think Geek to buy your own set. Just make sure you’re prepared to play until the end.
That’s all from this collector’s collection for now. Until next time, may your boxes be forever sealed and your posters perfectly rolled.
