Dre Parker (Jaden Smith) struggles with the transition of moving from the streets of Detroit to the very different world of China when he becomes a victim of a local bully. Taunted and harassed every day, Dre tells only the maintenance man at his school, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan). The two forge a bond as sensei and student when Han teaches Dre the art of kung fu and with it the lessons of maturity and responsibility. Also starring Taraji P. Henson.

Through genetic science, Clive (Adrien Brody) and Elsa (Sarah Polley) have found success in producing genetic hybrid animals. On a high from that success, the two decide to try a hybrid in which human DNA is added. The two conduct their experiment without the proper authorization and the creature they create is both a groundbreaking achievement and a possible threat to them all.
