State of Play

This political thriller by director Kevin McDonald (The Last King of Scotland) features an all-star cast of heavyweights including Russell Crowe, Helen Mirren, Ben Affleck and Rachel McAdams. Crowe plays Cal McAffrey, a Washington D.C. reporter who begins an investigation into the murder of a young researcher to one of the country’s up and coming political stars, Stephen Collins, (Affleck). As McAffrey continues to search for the truth in the story of the young girl’s death, secrets, seduction and scandal seem to be at the center and more and more suspicion surrounds Collins. The DVD includes behind the scenes look at the making of the film with a featurette, “The Making of State of Play.” Rated PG-13.

Bring It On: Fight to the Finish

The world of competitive cheerleading goes to the mat…again. Christina Millian dons the pom poms in this, latest addition to the Bring It On series as Lina Cruz. This time, instead of upscale meets urban – it’s urban meets upscale when Cruz’s mother forces her to leave her home of East Los Angeles for Malibu. Cruz quickly makes an adversary in Avery, captain of the Malibu Vista High Sea Lions cheerleading squad, which is lacking in talent in comparison to the squad Cruz left behind. Competition gets fierce in more ways than one and Cruz is dealt another challenge after Avery’s handsome brother quickly catches her eye. Plenty of extra features are on this DVD, including four featurettes and Deleted Scenes. Rated PG-13

Sugar

Coming off critical acclaim for their film “Half Nelson”, Ryan Fleck and Anna Boden team up again and move from the classroom to the baseball diamond in the story of Miguel Santos, a Dominican Athlete who dreams of playing professional, major league baseball. The DVD features interviews, featurettes and deleted scenes. Rated R.
