Friends With Benefits
“Friends with Benefits” is a completely predictable plot littered with the clichés of romantic comedies. It tries so hard to poke fun at the genre that it almost comes off a little hypocritical in its comments. Though despite its flaws and cookie cutter storyline the movie still has enough heart and humor in it to make it an enjoyable movie for guys and gals alike.
The story centers on Dylan (Justin Timberlake) and Jamie (Mila Kunis). Jamie is a head hunter who recruits Dylan, an entrepreneur running a successful website, to become the art director of GQ magazine. With Dylan being new to town the two begin a friendship that soon turns to the physical side with one rule, no intimate feelings allowed. Soon their friendship and hearts are pushed to the limits and the pair learns that you can’t always have your cake and eat it too.
Clichés aside, “Friends with Benefits” is actually an enjoyable flick and I believe that is heavily due to the movie’s shining stars. I have to say that if anyone would have told me ten years ago that I would be seeing the ex Nsyncer headlining a movie and that as much as I hate to admit it, actually like his performances. Of course, with the tantalizing Kunis I could probably stomach just about anyone else opposite her. That aside, the chemistry between these two make their characters seem more believable.
Truth be told though, the supporting cast are the ones that continually steal the show. Woody Harrelson as the openly gay sports editor at GQ was hilarious. Andy Samberg pops up as Kunis’ boyfriend who breaks up with her in the opening of the movie. The ever-popular Emma Stone pops up as Timberlake’s jilted ex whose love for John Mayer is as funny as it is frightening.
“Friends with Benefits” is the perfect movie to pick up for a fun date night at home on the couch. The beautiful 1080p of the Blu ray is sure to help make the stars even more attractive while making the New York background more vibrant and beautiful. The special features include deleted scenes, outtakes, and commentary by director Will Gluck, Timberlake and Kunis with a few Blu ray exclusives to boot.
