Breezy, lighthearted and full of whimsy, "Go with Le Flo" is a delightful romantic comedy that blends easy humor with earnest romance.
"Le Flo" follows Florian (Denis Aubert) a French deli owner living in Germany. His best friend is Jenny (Marina Senckel), whose love for Florian is unrequited; he is enamored with Camille (Leslie DuBreuil) while everyone around them knows he and Jenny are destined to be together.
The result is a movie where the main character comes off as a bit of a lunkhead, though he's a lovable one in this case; we know his heart is in the right place even as his head wanders places it shouldn't. Camille is not only disinterested in Florian, but she has another guy on the side.
Director Michael Glover crafts a film that feels in many ways like a stage production. This isn't a bad thing, as the characters are both down to earth but in some ways feel larger than life in their reactions.
The movie is mostly spoken in German, but there are bits of French and even English, which seems an odd choice but makes sense given the filmmakers are Americans. It's a fun, somewhat surreal touch.
"Le Flo" isn't reinventing the wheel, but is a fun, enjoyable romantic comedy. This is one of those films where the outcome is certainly predetermined and the tension is light, but the ride is certainly pleasant.
