It is quite ironic that a movie about making every minute count makes you feel as you have wasted valuable time of your life. From the beginning to the end, I couldn’t help but continually check the timecode.
“In Time” is set in the near future when time has replaced money as the currency. When everyone turns 25, an internal clock begins ticking down and to continue to live, people must earn more time. Will Salas (Justin Timberlake) is a poor working-class man who lives day by day. After helping out a stranger one night, he finds himself in possession of more than 100 years of life. Tired of watching friends and family die, Will sets out to get enough time for everyone and finds an unlikely ally in an heiress (Amanda Seyfried). Everyone deserves time and no one deserves to live forever.
All bad time puns aside, “In Time” is such an uneven and dull movie that it is really hard to watch. I could go into how drawn out the script was, how lifeless the acting was or how poor the direction was, but that would just be wasting more of your time. If you are into watching Timberlake and Seyfried run around every 10 minutes, then this is the movie for you. I can say that the one thing the movie has going for it is that at least you have something pretty to look at on Blu-ray. Unfortunately, 1080p isn’t enough to save this movie.
The special features include two featurettes with deleted and extended scenes. In short, run and never, ever look back. That is all.
