"Iron Man 3" gives summer a big launch
Summer 2013 got off to a great start with "Iron Man 3" exceeding predictions to take in $175 million in its opening weekend. Only "The Avengers" — coincidentally also starring Robert Downey Jr. playing the same character — had a better opening.
"Pain & Gain" held on to the No. 2 spot, but lost nearly two-thirds of its opening audience. "42" continues to show legs in third place. "Oblivion" is falling off fast in its third week in release, though it's done well enough overseas to cement Tom Cruise's returning star status.
