It's Time For 'A Clockwork Orange' at Midnight Madness
Landmark Theatres continues its October Midnight Madness schedule with the 1971 Sci-Fi thriller "A Clockwork Orange." This Stanley Kubrick cult classic and much discussed and debated film is based on the 1962 Alex Burgess novel. The film takes place in the future, in a city where the government severely oppresses its citizens. Extreme violence is the norm and a trio of sadistic teenage criminals run by Alex DeLarge (Malcolm McDowell) wreak havoc and horror on the citizens with crimes of torture, rape, beatings and burglary.
Alex DeLarge (the role which made actor Malcolm McDowell famous) is the ultimate super villain and sociopath who has no regard for any of his victims. He listens to Beethoven, drinks milk spiked with drugs and speaks in a rhyming slang called Nasdat (English, sprinkled with Russian words). Alex is eventually imprisoned, where he agrees to extreme therapy, including being kept awake to look at violent images, in an attempt towards rehabilitation. The film with its many disturbing images, is considered to be a social commentary on psychiatry, politics, society, and violence.
Grab a group of friends and get thoroughly creeped out (and disturbed!) at "A Clockwork Orange" at Landmark Theatres at Midnight on October 10 & 11.
