"Pain & Gain" leads weekend box office
"Pain & Gain" led the weekend box office tally with $20 million. That's not a bad figure for a picture that reputedly cost only $26 million to make. But stars Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson and director Michael Bay deferred their salaries in return for a big chunk of the back end. So it remains to see if the action/comedy can show enough legs to be truly profitable.
"Oblivion" remains in second place with only a modest 53% slip from its debut, and now has a worldwide tally of $176 million after only two weeks in release. It looks like Tom Cruise is back on ... well, maybe not the top, but at least the list of viable movie stars.
"42" is also doing well, now at nearly $70 million after three weeks in release.
