Supernatural: Season 7

Everybody’s favorite demon-slaying brothers are back and they’re definitely up a certain metaphorical creek without a paddle in sight. Now “Supernatural” fans can bring home all 22 episodes from Season Seven and relive all the spine-tingling moments.

“Supernatural” is the continuing story of Sam and Dean Winchester, sibling monster hunters trying to keep the world from going to the crapper. Now faced with new and terrifying foes in the Leviathans, the boys must use everything in their arsenal to defeat these biblical creatures while surviving each other. Unfortunately, the boys are outmatched, and a devastating loss only puts the boys further down, but Sam and Dean Winchester aren’t going down quietly.

Season Seven was certainly a strong entry into the “Supernatural” mythos, but the show definitely feels as though it isn’t willing to take risks as it has in the past. At the beginning of the season, Castiel is destroyed and inadvertently releases the Leviathans from Purgatory. These new creatures represent the beginning of monsters and are immune to the Winchesters' weapons. What I liked about the Leviathan is that they became extremely dangerous foes, but the show all but abandoned them. I think that after the lukewarm feelings about seasons four and five, showrunners are a little gun shy on taking any chances with the series.

There are still many classic episodes that keep the tone of the series very well. "Shut Up, Dr. Phil" brings a lot of humorous moments that are synonymous with the show. I think one of the strongest episodes has to be the season premiere, "Meet the New Boss." This episode showed a very powerful and extremely twisted version of Castiel. It was sad to see this fan favorite character a shell of his former self. There are tons of great episodes, and I so wish that Mark Pellegrino got more screen time because he plays Lucifer to a devilish tee.

This DVD release is a must-own for fans of the show, and while it wasn’t anything ground breaking, the season is still one of the strongest in the series. The special features are sadly pretty repetitive to the previous seasons. There are a few behind-the-scenes featurettes, a gag reel, and a few deleted scenes.
