Christopher Lloyd
Item: VIZIO 47" Class 1080p 60Hz LED TV - Black (E470-A0)
Store: Target
Cost: $379.99
The first order of business for any serious movie lover is a big-screen TV, and getting a 47-inch flat screen for $380 marked down from $520 is a damn good place to start. The pecking order of types of flat screens is LCD < Plasma< LED, and 1080p resolution is simply a must if you’re going to hook this baby up to a Blu-ray player and/or game console. And why the hell wouldn't you?!?
Item: Xbox 360 4GB Kinect Holiday Value Bundle (Xbox 360)
Store: Target
Cost: $189.99
Yes, the next-gen gaming consoles are out now with awesome new features and ridiculously high asking prices – and that’s assuming you’re not resorting to buying one on the black market as stores quickly sell out of Xbox Ones and Playstations 4s. But that also means the old systems are now cheap, cheap, cheap! Pick up an Xbox 360 with the Kinect Bundle that includes two games, Kinect Sports: Season Two and Kinect Adventure, for under two hundred bucks.
Joe Shearer
Item: Life-sized Terminator T-800 Endoskeleton Maquette
Store: Sideshow Collectibles
Price: $5999.99
Okay, so I was thinking, what is the ULTIMATE gift for the movie lover? Right about the time I was ready to give up I ran across this beauty. A 6-foot-tall full-body statue of arguably the most menacing, imposing, iconic figure in the history of sci fi, this statue is made of polystone, fiberglass, metals and other materials and features light-up eyes and weids his two enormous futuristic machine guns while standing atop a pile of skulls. There is no better gift for the cinephile than this, but I know what you're thinking: a little pricey, right? Well, Sideshow has a 1:2 scale replica available as well for a third of the price (Check that out here), along with a large line of smaller, more afforable busts, statues and maquettes.
Item: Flint Tropics #33 Jackie Moon basketball jersey
Price: $29.99
Okay, so "Semi-Pro" was far from Will Ferrell's greatest movie, but it was so awesomely bad that it's memorable, and wouldn't you want to be the only person you know who owns a basketball jersey based on a Will Ferrell character, who played on a fictional team in a real-life defunct basketball league? At $29.99 this is a steal, but beware: the seller on this page warns that you may need up to 5 weeks for shipping. Order now!
Item: Sony Smart Wi-Fi Blu-ray player
Price: $54.99
Store: Meijer
Item: “Goodfellas” Blu-ray
Price: $7
Store:Mejer
Item: “The Last Stand” Blu-ray
Price: $7
Store: Meijer
Nobody needs to tell you twice: Listen to your old man. Schoolyard scrapes, heartbreaks, popping a clutch, how to choke up, dirty jokes, the perfect scotch. You name it, he knows it. Listen to your old man ... most of the time.
Dad says he doesn’t need a Blu-ray player, that his DVD player you got him in 2001 — in which discs now spin so loudly only explosions drown it out — is “fine.” Did Dad let you settle for “fine”? For less than $70 at Meijer, get him “better than fine.”
First, pick up the Sony Smart Wi-Fi Blu-ray player — a premier player with all the fixings (including a simple Netflix interface that will make it easy for him to binge on “Breaking Bad”). Then, seed his collection with a couple of Blu-rays: “Goodfellas,” because duh, and “The Last Stand,” the Schwarzenegger one, because it’s a high-octane spin on “High Noon” with chases and gunfights that could only feel more authentically ’80s were “Shakedown” blaring on the soundtrack. (You know Dad loves “Beverly Hills Cop II,” too, because he let you watch it when you were 9.)
Listening to your old man got you far, gave you smarts, made you trustworthy. That’s why he knows, in this instance, it’s time to listen to you.
