The Bird Lady
The Film Yap Lexicon is comprised of terminology for certain cinematic phenomena that occur often enough to form discernible patterns — typically events or circumstances that are patently ludicrous to customs of narrative or known science and, on occasion, the result of misguided choices by filmmakers. Although these terms could take their name from numerous films, they are principally derived from the prime examples of this phenomena.
THE BIRD LADY
When a main character encounters a mysterious, terrifying secondary stranger who appears to stare at the hero in a menacing (or at least creepy) manner, that character will later show up at a seemingly inopportune time (specifically a time where they cannot run away or are in mortal danger), slowly lumber up to the character while they recoil in terror, and either free them or save them from the danger.
We will then find out this character is not a ghoul at all, but a misunderstood outcast who has suffered some sort of personal tragedy that has left them a shell of their former self. This will then leave the main character one more opportunity to help by solving their problem.
Examples of the "Bird Lady" come from the woman in "Home Alone 2," and the old man in the first "Home Alone," among others.
