The 365 Best Films of the Decade...Coming Soon
Should old cinema be forgot and never brought to mind? Of course not.
Beginning Jan. 1, 2010, Film Yap writer Nick Rogers will kick off “Heroes of the Zeroes: The Decade’s 365 Best Films.”
Each day, Rogers will look back at one of the 365 best films released from 2000 through 2009 — listed in alphabetical order. The Web address for the list will be http://www.thefilmyap.com/365.
As a decade, The Aughts gave us 10 years of great movies. So why not devote 10 percent of that time to reflect upon and recommend them?
Aside from obvious picks such as “No Country for Old Men” or “There Will Be Blood,” the “Heroes of the Zeroes” list is filled with overlooked, underestimated or forgotten-about titles.
There's as much room here for buffoonish newsmen, vengeful demons, video-game kings and aging Lotharios as for tenacious entrepreneurs, unstoppable assassins, cloaked superheroes and brave Hobbits.
Rogers also will post “Movies You Aught Not Watch: The Decade’s 52 Worst Films” — an alphabetically ordered, weekly feature remembering the last decade’s most wretched offerings.
Hollywood rarely seems to learn from its history of bad films, but moviegoers are the ones doomed when that history repeats. On this list are movies bad enough to truly test your will.
“Movies You Aught Not Watch” debuts Jan. 6, 2010, and will be updated every Wednesday.
