In 1944 France, a grieving woman is forced to take in a group of German soldiers. The suspense really kicks in once it appears the soldiers have a secret of their own. The film has a very great depiction of this time through its lighting and visuals.
Only slight cues are necessary to build really effective scenes of uneasiness and tension. Those scenes are the best part of the 20 minutes. The scenes only with the French woman are still worthy, but they don’t resonant as powerfully.
