The Wolf of Wall Street (2013)
Martin Scorsese’s latest film “The Wolf of Wall Street” is available on Blu-ray/DVD this Tuesday, March 25. The movie isn’t as good as some of his classics like “Goodfellas” or “Casino,” but it’s a pretty close call. I am in complete agreement with fellow Film Yapper Chris Lloyd and his review of the film.
"The Wolf of Wall Street" is a 4.5/5 movie, and if you haven’t seen it, it is definitely worth watching. Period.
I am, however, not convinced that this movie is worth owning for $20 on Blu-ray/DVD; a Redbox or pay-per-view movie, definitely. To explain, “The Wolf of Wall Street” doesn’t offer much in terms of bonus features. Aside from the typical Blu-ray, DVD and digital copy you receive, there is only one bonus feature. One.
The bonus featurette, entitled “The Wolf Pack,” is a 17-minute behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film. Through interviews with the cast and crew, it briefly touches upon the subject matter of the film and the actors’ methods, and gives viewers a look at some of the filmmaking process.
Scorsese-films are worthy of the “Special-Edition Treatment”: director’s commentary, director’s cut, outtakes and trailers. He’s a cinematic genius, so it seems like an awful waste of a Blu-Ray disc not to include these extras. Perhaps it’s because the film is 3 hours and they couldn’t fit more features onto the disc? I don’t know, just brainstorming, but I certainly hope it’s not because they’re waiting to release a “Special Edition” years down the road.
To reiterate: If you haven’t seen this movie, go and rent it when it comes out. If you’re a movie lover, however, you will be disappointed with the lack of bonus content from this release.
