Trailer Round-Up: Transformers!
This week's crop of trailers sees a longer look at Michael Bay's latest action monstrosity, a sequel, 70 years or so in the making, and some DTV horror.
Transformers: Age of Extinction
This week brings us more summer blockbuster shenanigans, as the latest trailer for Michael Bay's "Transformers: Age of Extinction" dropped late Tuesday evening.
This trailer focuses more on the film's plot (if you can claim a Bay film has one, anyway). Judging by this one, the Autobots are largely in exile/hiding, and Mark Wahlberg stumbles upon a modified Optimus Prime, sparking a Transformers renaissance when the government catches wind of it.
From there we see shots of robot-on-robot violence, random madness, and the usual action-movie antics. I am still completely convinced this fourth film in the franchise will leave me as disappointed as the previous three, but I'm still excited about seeing it, if nothing else then for this visual: Optimus Prime riding Grimlock. Legends of Oz: Dorothy's Return
Because last year's goofy prequel wasn't enough, we now get this animated sequel to "The Wizard of Oz," featuring our favorite classic characters (except the Wicked Witch, because, you know, she's dead), and some new ones, including a marshmallow guy, peanuts, a giant owl-looking thing, peanuts, and Peeps. Yes, that's right, everyone's (least) favorite yellow sugar-coated marshmallow treats now reside in the land of Oz, apparently serving as jurors in a courtroom. Also, Dorothy returns to drive an evil court jester out of Oz. I don't know...this looks ridiculous.
Dark House
This DTV horror entry stars Tobin Bell (of the "SAW" series), and looks to be a sort of combination between "The Dead Zone" and...I dunno..."Children of the Corn"? A man with the ability to see the death of anyone he touches has been strangely compelled to draw a specific house since he was a child. When he comes upon this house, he wants to unlock its secrets, but some kind of secret society doesn't want him to, and will kill to keep him from doing it. It looks a little ludicrous, but horror comes in all shapes, so who knows? Here's the trailer:
