Trailer Roundup: Guardians, Doubles, Jump
The spotlight for this week's Trailer Roundup is undoubtedly the long-awaited premiere of the hotly-anticipated comic book flick "Guardians of the Galaxy." Since the announcement that it would be among Marvel Studios' slate of "Phase 2" films leading into "Avengers: Age of Ultron," speculation has swirled around the film, from its outrageous premise (a superteam that includes a sentient tree-man...and a gun-toting raccoon).
Guardians of the Galaxy
But this trailer looks nothing short of spectacular, hinting at a film with equally-honed senses of adventure and humor. Chris Pratt (known mostly for his role as Andy Dwyer in NBC's "Parks & Recreation") stars as Peter Quil, known to some (mostly himself) as Starlord, and boasts a newly-buff body alongside names like Zoe Saldana, John C. Reilly, Benicio del Toro, Dave Bautista, and the voices of Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper.
So take a gander...what do you think? Will this continue Marvel's solid streak, or will it be their first bona fide miss?
The Double
Jesse Eisenberg stars in this thriller, which sports a trailer that pulls off a rare feat: it impels you to see the movie without giving away many plot details. Just from the trailer, we can ascertain Eisenberg plays dual roles, he's chasing a mysterious girl on a subway train, and he spends some time running. Also the film is based on a novel by classic Russian author Fyodor Dostoyevsky. And it has some wicked creepy fiddle music running over it that gives it something of a Hitchcockian vibe.
Frankie & Alice
Halle Berry and Stellan Skarsgaard star in this drama about a woman with Dissociative Personality Disorder, better known to you and me as Multiple Personality Disorder. Skarsgaard plays the doctor who wants to help her through it.
22 Jump Street
The sequel to the surprise hit (surprise that it was actually good), this sequel screams much of the same: "no way this is going to be good." That, of course, leaves an opening for it to surprise us again. Here's hoping it is good!
