Upcoming Films to Watch Out For
We all love a good flick, and now that it’s apparent that the summer months are well and truly over, it’s the perfect time to cast off the guilt that comes with going to the cinema on a perfectly sunny day, escaping the harsh autumnal wind and rain! The next month looks very interesting when it comes to new releases; the lack of sequels will make for a fresh and surprising season, a nail-biting one on the part of production companies and distributors! Here are our favourite upcoming films that have yet to step into the limelight.
Denzel Washington is the king of tense action films, with a brooding yet emotional acting style that can’t help but wow the audience. With such hits as "Man on Fire" safely under his belt, Denzel seems still drawn to the genre, and on September 26th will be heading to screens in "The Equalizer," directed by Antoine Fuqua. Washington and Fuqua collaborated in the Oscar-winning "Training Day." Denzel plays Robert McCall, an ex-special forces figure who, though back into the swing of everyday life, spends his nights fighting injustice, helping those who have suffered due to criminal acts. Co-starring Chloë Grace Moretz, the film looks set to be an exciting release!
Next up is a film that’s only been mentioned in whispers throughout Hollywood circles, only being confirmed weeks ago. Based on the 1980 Nevada casino extortion plot, where law enforcement officials battled to defuse a bomb that was discovered underneath Harvey’s Wagon Wheel Casino, the film is still clouded in a degree of mystery, with Bradley Cooper earmarked as being involved in the project so far, as producer. Casino movies seem to be big news nowadays. Traditionally, brick-and-mortar casinos were the traditional settings for films; however with the big rise in online gaming, might we see some net-based casino flicks? Perhaps a future Hollywood plotline will depict a nefarious hacking conspiracy against popular casino advice site Classicasinos? Only time will tell!
Also released on September 26th is the stop-motion adventure comedy flick "The Boxtrolls." Definitely one to visit with your children or nephews/nieces, the film tells the story of an orphaned boy who is raised by a group of rubbish collecting trolls. Starring Isaac Hempstead-Wright (Brandon Stark on "Game of Thrones"), Elle Fanning, Ben Kingsley and Simon Pegg, "The Boxtrolls" looks set to be a truly Brit-tacular movie outing!
Our final pick for September is "The Maze Runner," an upcoming sci-fi action thriller starring Dylan O’Brien and Kaya Scodelario. The film follows Thomas, a boy who wakes up only to find himself trapped in an enormous maze with no memory of the outside world. Thomas and the group of boys he finds himself with must then piece together their past with clues hidden throughout the maze, these being their only chance of escape. Set for release on September 19th in the US (October 24th in the UK), the movie looks to be a thrilling sci-fi romp.
