Virtuoso Virtual

Sometimes movies, particularly short films, don't necessarily have to be about something. And such is "Virtuoso Virtual," a charming mood piece that evokes memories of Disney's "Fantasia."
"Virtual" has no characters, no plot and no driving action, but is nonetheless captivating, simply combining terrific visuals with classical music.
Those visuals are largely watercolor paint, itself an exercise in complex simplicity, as brushstrokes, blotches and streaks bounce around the screen to the music. The paint bobs and weaves, bumping and changing direction as the music changes. It's a mesmerizing experience that's cheerful and invigorating.
And that's it. Short, sweet, to the point, but utterly interesting.
Jerry Seinfeld once made a TV show he claimed is about nothing. Thomas Stellmach made a short film about the same subject. The trick to both of them is that they aren't really about nothing, but what they are about is a personal experience.
This is the sort of film that film festivals love — quirky gems that you'll otherwise probably never see, but once you have, you'll be glad you did.
