"We're the Millers" sounds like a really bad joke: a drug dealer, a stripper, a hobo and a virgin smuggle an RV full of marijuana from Mexico to Denver all while trying to escape a powerful drug lord. The movie may travel the same beaten path as previous road trip movies, but by the end it's sure to tickle your funny bone more than once.
“Millers” is the story of career pot dealer David Clark (Jason Sudeikis), who after being robbed of his supplier’s (Ed Helms) money, is forced to move a large amount of pot from Mexico back to Denver. Now David, with the help of his neighbors, must pose as a happy suburban family to safely smuggle a lot of marijuana from Mexico back to Denver. Unbeknownst to David, the marijuana he’s picking up doesn’t actually belong to his supplier, as he was led to believe. So, if David's fake family doesn't kill him, an angry Mexican drug lord will.
Everything about this movie sounds like a retread of “Identity Thief” from earlier this year, promising an all-star cast out on the road together getting into all kinds of hijinks. But unlike “Identity Thief,” “We’re the Millers” delivers. I mean, yes, the movie is very formulaic, but the cast i really brings this movie home. Sudeikis is fantastic as David, a drug dealer with a heart. He brings a certain charisma to the character that makes it hard for you to hate him, no matter what he does. Even though I shouldn’t have been, I was most surprised with Jennifer Aniston. Her comedic timing is fantastic and she seems to have a lot of fun with her character. She definitely seems to be determined to leave her “Friends” character behind.
“We’re the Millers” is a fun and hilarious movie, and while I don’t know if I can agree with the movie’s bold statement of, “By far the funniest movie since 'The Hangover,' it’s still guaranteed to leave you in stitches.
The Blu-ray release is chock full of fantastic special features. There’s a feature entitled "See More Jennifer and More Jason," an extended cut of the film, outtakes, a gag reel and deleted scenes. I also couldn’t stop laughing when the crew takes a pretty funny jab at Aniston.
