Wet Your Pants Festival this Saturday
The "Wet Your Pants Comedy Film Festival" returns to Indianapolis this Saturday at the Movie Buff Theatre, 3535 W. 86th Street. Head over to their website for a complete rundown of movies and showtimes:
Among the films featured is "Get A Job," which was produced by Hawaii islanders. Among the cast is former "Hoosiers" star Eric Gilliom. From their press release:
Eric Gilliom, one of the stars in GET A JOB, which will be showcasing at the WET YOUR PANTS FILM FESTIVAL in Indianapolis on Saturday, April 27, at 2:30 p.m., has fond memories of Indianapolis. That is because Gilliom also performed in HOOSIERS (1986) and remembers Butler and the Hinkle Fieldhouse very well. Gilliom played J. June, one of the opposing basketball players in the movie. Some consider HOOSIERS to be the best basketball film ever produced. Others give the nod to GLORY ROAD (2006).
“David Niedorf and myself, who played ‘Shooter's’ son, were the only actors in the basketball scenes,” said Gilliom. Of course, Maris Valainis stood out as Jimmy Chitwood and went on to some other movie roles,” added the Maui native son. “He was such a natural; they turned him into a giant screen presence.”
In GET A JOB, Gilliom stars as the wacky surfer. In real life, he is a popular island entertainer in Hawaii and beyond. He and co-star Willie K did the music CD that was produced by Brian Kohne and performed as the BAREFOOT NATIVES. Producer Stefan C. Schaefer announced that GET A JOB, which was recently released to DVD, has received a nomination for a 2013 Na Hoku Hanohano award (Hawaiian Grammy) for its soundtrack. Another featured artist in the movie, Amy Hanaiali’i, also got a nomination as Hawaiian female vocalist of the year. Ukulele sensation Jake Shimabukuro, who steals the scene on the Japanese tourist bus, is nominated for his Grand Ukulele album-CD.
“ 'Hoosiers' was my first acting job right out of the Goodman School of Drama at DePaul University in Chicago. I then went to Broadway for a short run of 'Carrie,' ” said Gilliom.
“Most of the basketball players were Indiana boys, all high school and college basketball players. They only knew Gene Hackman as Lex Luther of 'Superman' (1978) fame.” Maui film icon Richard Donner produced that film franchise.
