I don’t think it was sad! What was sad about it? She found her voice at the end and was finally sexually fulfilled.

I suppose the process she took to get there made me sad. I felt bad for Antonio Banderas' character. I will say the movie had as hopeful of an ending as it possibly could given the subject matter. It gave me a good deal to chew on afterwards. Also, I may read the movie differently as a man. Thanks for reading and Happy New Year!

I saw it last night. I agree 100% that it could only have been made by a woman. The most real portrayal of female masturbation and work/life conflict that I've ever seen. I found the film disturbing, erotic, multi-layered, and bone-achingly sad. As well as an intense celebration of the journey toward fulfillment that many go through. (I did find a couple of instances that off-putting because the characters behaved out of character, but perhaps the screenwriter was highlighting emotional intensity.)
