Modern filmmakers' obstinate refusal to include intermissions for long movies just shows how disengaged they are from the people who actually watch -- and show -- their flicks.
Quentin Tarantino included an intermission in The Hateful Eight, but I can't recall any other modern film with one. I find they unnecessarily break up the continuity of a film, and I prefer films don't have one, but I understand the advantages you name. I could live with it if longer films came with a 7 or 8 minute break.
