The original killer has its moments, but it plays as unintentionally comedic all the way through. How anyone can sit through it without laughing is beyond me. That said, this remake looks terrible.
I really liked John Woo's original movie - though I preferred "Hard Boiled" - and I quite his enjoyed his remake. Guess I'm just a Woo dude. Thanks for reading and for your thoughts. Have a nice holiday weekend!
I like Hard Boiled a lot. It has some schmaltzy maudlin moments, but only a few. The Killer is a non-stop barrage of 'em. It could be that I just don't like that aspect of his filmmaking.
I'm curious what you think of Mission Impossible 2. I feel like that is all of Woo's worst tendencies dialed up to 11. It's everything I dislike about The Killer, only more so. Maybe to a Woo fan it's a great movie, and it's just me not appreciating him for what he does best?
I like "Mission: Impossible II," but not nearly as well as I did when it came out in the summer of 2000. Woo's stuff is generally inherently cheesy, but I'm also more often than not here for it.

I'll probably need to watch and rewatch a bunch of his stuff someday and see what I think now that I'm all grown up.
My faves are Hard Boiled, Hard Target and Face/Off.
